Facebook links come in many shapes
Facebook is the trickiest platform for links: the same video can be shared as a Watch link, a Page video link, a reel, a
/share/ link or an fb.watch short link. MediaSave recognises all of these and converts them to one clean
form before processing, so you don't need to tidy the link yourself.
Facebook typically offers a standard-definition and a high-definition version of a video. When the media service returns both, you'll see them as separate options — usually labelled SD and HD, or by resolution.
Supported Facebook link formats
How to get the link
- In the Facebook app: tap Share under the video, then Copy link. This usually gives you a
/share/orfb.watchlink — both work. - On a computer: click the video's date/time stamp so it opens on its own, then copy the address bar. Or right-click the video → Copy video URL at current time.
- Paste the link above, press Download, and choose SD or HD.
Which Facebook videos are public?
A video is public when anyone can watch it without logging in. In practice that means:
- Usually public: videos posted by Pages, public reels, and posts from profiles that set the audience to Public (the globe icon).
- Not public: posts shared with Friends or custom lists, videos in private groups, Messenger videos, and most group content.
- Live videos: become available after the broadcast ends and Facebook has finished processing the replay.
If you're not sure, open the link in a private browser window where you're signed out. If Facebook asks you to log in, the video isn't public.
SD & HD
Both qualities are listed when the service returns them for the video.
Short links resolved
fb.watch and /share/ links are accepted directly from the app.
Reels supported
Public Facebook reels work the same way as regular videos.
Clean links
Tracking parameters like mibextid are removed before processing.
Facebook downloader questions
Which Facebook links can I use?
Watch links (/watch/?v=), Page video links (/videos/), reels, /share/v/ and /share/r/ links, and fb.watch short links.
Why doesn't a video from a group work?
Videos in private groups — and most group content — require signing in to view, so they aren't public and can't be processed.
Can I download a live video?
Not while it's live. After the broadcast ends and Facebook publishes the replay publicly, the replay can be processed like any other video.
