Reels, video posts and carousels
Instagram has three kinds of public video content that MediaSave understands: Reels (short vertical videos), regular posts that contain a video, and carousels — posts with several photos or clips you swipe through. For a carousel, the media service may return each item separately, so you might see more than one file in the result list.
Instagram Stories and Highlights are different: Instagram only shows them to signed-in users, so they aren't treated as public and MediaSave doesn't process them.
How to copy an Instagram link
- Open the Reel or post in the Instagram app.
- Tap the paper-plane (Share) icon, then Copy link. On a post you can also use the ⋯ menu → Link.
- Paste it into MediaSave and press Download.
- Choose a file. On Android it saves to Downloads; on iPhone, open the file and use Share → Save Video.
Links copied from the app often end in a tracking code such as ?igsh=…. You don't need to remove it — MediaSave strips it before processing.
Supported Instagram link formats
Why an Instagram link might fail
- Private account. If you need to follow an account to see its posts, the post isn't public.
- Photo-only post. A post with no video has nothing to download as video — you'll see a "no media" message.
- Age-restricted or region-limited content. Instagram may require sign-in for these, which MediaSave never does.
- Removed or archived posts. Once a creator archives or deletes a post, the link stops working.
A note about music in Reels
Many Reels use licensed songs from Instagram's music library. That licence covers playback on Instagram — it doesn't automatically extend to a copy you save. If you plan to share a Reel elsewhere, the music rights matter as much as the video itself.

Can I download Instagram Stories?
No. Instagram shows Stories and Highlights only to signed-in users, so they aren't public content and MediaSave doesn't process them.
Do carousel posts work?
Yes, when the processing service returns the individual items. Each video or image in the carousel then appears as its own option.
Do I need to remove ?igsh= from the link?
No. Tracking parameters are stripped automatically before the link is processed.
