How MediaSave works

1. Platform detection in your browser

As soon as you paste, MediaSave reads the link's web address and recognises whether it belongs to X, Instagram, Facebook or TikTok. This happens instantly on your device, which is why you see "✓ Instagram URL detected" before pressing anything.

2. Strict validation on our server

When you press Download, our server checks the link again — it never trusts the browser alone. It accepts only the official domains of the four platforms, only recognised post formats (for example /reel/… or /status/…), and it strips tracking parameters. Anything else is rejected with an explanation. MediaSave never fetches arbitrary web addresses.

3. Processing by a media service

The cleaned link is passed to a media-resolution service configured by the MediaSave team for that platform. The service looks up the public post and reports which media files exist — their qualities, formats, a thumbnail and the duration. If the post is private, removed or needs a login, the service reports that instead, and you'll see a clear message.

If one service is having trouble, MediaSave may try a second configured service once. It never retries endlessly.

4. Showing only real options

The list you see is exactly what the service returned. We don't invent "4K" options or relabel files. If only one quality exists, you'll see one option.

5. Delivering the file

Each Download button is a short-lived, signed link that works for about 30 minutes from your connection. Usually it sends your browser straight to the file on the media service's servers, so the video doesn't pass through ours. MediaSave doesn't keep copies of videos.

What MediaSave can't do

• Access private accounts, friends-only posts, private groups, Stories, or anything that requires signing in.
• Bypass paywalls, DRM, age gates or other access controls.
• Download from websites other than the four supported platforms.
